Winner of 'Liverpool's Best Allotment Site' 2016

Green Pennant Award

What is a Green Pennant Award?

The Green Pennant Award is a national award that recognises high quality green spaces in England and Wales that are managed by voluntary and community groups.

The Award has an impressive and established background – it’s part of the Green Flag Award scheme, the national standard for quality parks and green spaces.

The Green Pennant Award is run by the Civic Trust and supported by the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Why Enter?

You know how hard it can be to attract attention in your community to your green space.  Receiving a Green Pennant Award is an excellent way to help generate interest.

The benefits of receiving an Award include excellent publicity for your site and your organisation on a national and regional scale, increased funding opportunities and the knowledge that your site is helping to contribute to a renewed sense of pride in your area.

Winners receive a pennant and certificate to display on site for 1 year, from the date the Award is presented.

What the Judges will be Looking For in Your Green Space

Each green space will be judged on its own merit by an expert who will visit each site. You won’t be in competition with others – an Award will be given to any green space that is judged to meet the criteria. To ensure that your green space stands the best chance of receiving an Award, you may like to consider the issues that our judges will be looking for:

  • A Welcoming Place
  • Healthy, Safe and Secure
  • Well Maintained and Clean
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Biodiversity and Heritage
  • Community Involvement
  • Achievements
